Riemland Wine Route
Francolin Creek is one of three wine cellars forming part of the Riemland Wine Route - inspired by the Cape wine tasting and sales routes. Francolin Creek host Wessel and his brother Danie from Goedehoop are the men behind the Riemland Wine Route concept.
Francolin Creek markets the boutique wines of:
Kloovenburg Vineyards, Shiraz country, Riebeek Kasteel
Groote Post upon Darling Hills, situated 7km from the cold Atlantic
Babylon’s Peak, nestled in the slopes of Paardeberg near Malmesbury
The other two farms on the route include:
Goedehoop Wine Cellar, hosted by Danie and Marise Hattingh, marketing the well-known Van Loveren wines from the estate by the same name near Robertson;
Moratuwa Wine Cellar, hosts Albert stock the famous Simonsig wines.
Here, in the heart of the Free State, these three farms have come together to form a Cape wine tasting experience only two hours outside Johannesburg. Cellars built underneath 100-year old farmhouses, alongside savannah grasslands or meandering rivers come complete with the full range of Cape wine tasting facilities, from wooden tables and narrow-rimmed wine-sniffing glasses, spittoons, to water jugs for cleansing the palate and a complete stock of fine Cape wines. Wessel and the other three members decided to establish cellars where Cape wine could be tasted and sold, as an added appealing factor for visitors to their Free State farms.
