Lesotho is an outdoor adventure haven. As the country is surrounded by the mighty Maluti Mountains, hiking, trekking and mountain climbing are highly recommended activities. Trails are also available for mountain bikes, quads and motorcycles, and 4x4 vehicles. If you prefer something more sedate, you can try your hand at trout fishing in the dams and crystal clear streams that flow down the mountains. Lesotho also boasts a number of different bird species for avid ornithologists.
No trip to Lesotho is complete without a pony trek. The most popular routes travel to the falls at Ribaneng, Ketane and Maletsunyane (which is the highest single-drop fall in southern Africa). Treks are between two and four days long and overnight stops are usually in Basotho huts. Less traditional activities include paragliding, skiing and abseiling. Maletsunyane Falls boasts the World Record for the highest commercial abseil drop (204m).
